Intro to Haitian Vodou Course

BGM Academy: Haitian Vodou 101 is a seven-week foundational course designed for those seeking a respectful, authentic introduction to Haitian Vodou. Whether you're reconnecting with your heritage, exploring the tradition for the first time, or trying to separate truth from misinformation, this course provides the structure and guidance to help you build a strong spiritual foundation.

Over seven live sessions, we'll explore the history, worldview, ethics, structure, and Lwa of Vodou, while also covering the practical side of the tradition that many beginners struggle to find. You'll learn how to develop a healthy spiritual practice, build a relationship with the Lwa, understand spiritual communication and discernment, perform beginner-friendly practices such as spiritual cleansing, protection, lamps, and offerings, and approach common spiritual situations with confidence and respect for the tradition. Throughout the course, we'll also learn songs, prayers, and discuss ceremonies, rites of passage, and what it truly means to live Vodou as a spiritual path.

Classes are held live on Zoom once a week for approximately two hours, with plenty of time for questions, discussion, and community. Students will also have access to class recordings, downloadable resources, and a private student community. The course concludes with an optional in-person gathering and ceremony in the Atlanta area for those who wish to experience the communal side of Vodou firsthand.

Because Vodou is a closed spiritual tradition, enrollment includes a complimentary personal reading. After registering, you'll receive a scheduling link to book your reading before classes begin. This helps ensure the course is aligned with your spiritual path while giving you an opportunity to ask questions before the first session.
